frequently asked questions

What if I miss a lesson?

To cancel or reschedule a lesson, please provide at least 24 hours' notice. If less than 24 hours' notice is given, the lesson will be forfeited. You can notify me via email, text message, or phone — if you reach voicemail, simply leave a message. Please note that missed lessons are non-refundable. However, I will do my best to arrange a make-up lesson at a mutually convenient time, typically during holidays or weekends.

Can I reschedule?

You can reschedule a lesson by contacting me via email, text message, or phone. Lessons can be moved to any available time slot I have open, but please remember to provide at least 24 hours' notice for rescheduling.

what if I want to discontinue?

You can terminate lessons at any time without being locked into a specific term period. Please be aware that due to the monthly billing structure, if you choose to end lessons in the middle of a month, the full monthly fee will still be processed.

What should I do if my child or I want to try a different instrument?

It is quite normal for students to become curious and interested in trying out other instruments. If you'd like to try a new instrument, just let me know and we can work on learning the new instrument.

How do I pay?

All fees are collected monthly by Direct Debit through Stripe. You will be emailed a link to registration for payment after your trial lesson.

At what age do you accept students?

I accept students starting from 6 years old or Year 1. At this time, I do not teach kindergarten-aged children, as my lessons require students to have basic reading skills. This is essential for building a strong foundation in music theory.

Is it possible for two students to take lessons together?

Two friends or family members are welcome to learn together in the same lesson. However, it’s important to note that students often progress at different rates, which can sometimes lead to frustration. A great alternative is scheduling fortnightly lessons and alternating between the two students each week. For siblings, a more effective option is to book separate lesson times to ensure each receives personalised attention.

What if my child or I have no prior experience?

No need to worry! I welcome students of all skill levels. My teaching approach is patient and encouraging, with a carefully designed curriculum that helps beginners build confidence and mastery from the ground up.

Will I or my child need to have our own instrument?

To get the most out of your lessons, it's important to have a well-maintained instrument. While I do bring my own instruments having your own is essential for regular practice and progress.

do you teach exams?

I do not include exam preparation in my teaching approach, as I believe it can create unnecessary pressure for both students and myself. My focus is on making learning enjoyable and tailored to each student's individual pace. If you're interested in pursuing exams, I’m happy to recommend teachers who specialise in that area.

How many hours of practice should I aim for each week?

A student’s progress is largely influenced by their practice habits. Success in music comes from consistent practice, so it’s essential to establish a regular routine. Starting with just five to ten minutes of practice a few times a week can make a significant difference in your progress.

What should I do if my child or I find the lessons too challenging?

It’s natural for students to encounter challenges during the learning process. I follow three golden rules to address most difficulties: slow it down, break it down, and practice it repeatedly.

What happens if my child doesn’t practice?

It's common for parents to worry when their child loses interest in practicing an instrument. Children often go through phases of enthusiasm and boredom. Learning an instrument requires time, dedication, and patience. Encouraging your child, praising their practice efforts, and avoiding criticism can help rekindle their interest. I am transparent with parents; if I notice a lack of engagement, I’ll adjust my teaching methods, suggest trying a different instrument, or, if necessary, recommend discontinuing lessons for their best interest.
